Appointment to National Data Advisory Council

The Hon Stuart Robert MP, Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Minister for Government Services

Minister for Government Services, Stuart Robert, today addressed the National Data Advisory Council meeting in Melbourne and announced the appointment of Professor Sallie Pearson to the Council.

Professor Pearson fills a vacancy left by the retirement of Professor Fiona Stanley AC.

‘I would like to thank Professor Stanley for her contribution to the National Data Advisory Council and congratulate Professor Sallie Pearson on her appointment. Professor Pearson has a strong background in health research and brings a unique perspective to the group,’ Minister Robert said.

‘As Head of the Medicines Policy Research Unit at the UNSW Centre for Big Data Research, Professor Pearson is well placed to advise the National Data Commissioner on the opportunities for government data to deliver better health outcomes for all Australians.’

The Council guides the Office of the National Data Commissioner on how to better share public sector data—in safe and secure ways—to assist consumers, researchers, and industry to better understand the world we live in and deliver better outcomes for all Australians.

‘The Council includes some of Australia’s most respected and trusted data experts, their advice is central to shaping the public sector data framework,’ Minister Robert said.

‘The work of the National Data Commissioner will underpin the government’s world leading vision for Services Australia. When Australians reach out for government services, they rightly expect a simple and seamless interaction and the ability to have a single view of the government. Better use of data across Government will provide a foundation for meeting this expectation.’
