In it, the author asks, 'Why are data inventories and assessments ‘must-do’ activities?' and says 'the Office of the National Data Commissioner authored an excellent Guide to Developing a Data Inventory.'

Government data inventories are being used to build the Australian Government Data Catalogue, which will launch this year. The value of the catalogue is critically dependent on Australian Government entities keeping their data inventories complete and up-to-date.
